AJBH vol 5 launch

Jack Waterfod will launch issue 5 of the Australian Journal of Biography and History, a special edition in which 10 articles collectively revisit political biography in Australia by tracing new directions in its production and reception – how is it being redefined, what is its current significance, and where is it going? Guest editors for this issue are Stephen Wilks and Joshua Black, of the ANU National Centre of Biography.

This issue demonstrates that political biography is growing beyond just ‘one damned life after another’, and that there are new and productive paths open for practitioners, readers and critics of this genre. It looks beyond the limited perception of political biography as simply the study of great statesmen, or great stateswomen, and proposes instead a widening of what actually constitutes political life writing. Contributors include Sarah Engledow, Murray Goot, Patrick Mullins, Tim Rowse, Robert Tickner, and Chris Wallace.

Jack Waterford AM, journalist and former editor of the Canberra Times, is one of Australia’s foremost political commentators and columnists. In 2007 he was named Canberra Citizen of the Year, and is well known as a public speaker.
